Life lesson Trough Traveling

" I have been mountain biking near Kamloops. It was fantastic, the weather was just right and the trail was amazing. Do you want to see the pictures?" asked Rick "Sure, I always want to do a trail ride on the West Coast, now I can see if it is worth going there" replied Jeff.

When we come back from an adventure we like to share that with the people around us. We show the pictures or film we toke, and talk about what we saw and experienced. When we where wowed on the trip, we love to share it with the world, we tell everyone how wonderful it was and recommend it. If it was bad or it under delivered we share that too. It is the middle category the travel industry worries about, because they don't hear what they are lacking in the hospitality or service department, and at the same time people don't recommend their accommodation or service to anyone.

In daily life we do the same thing; if somebody wow us we tell everyone about it, if someone disappoint us, we tell everybody about that too. But if our interaction is so, so we let it slide and just move on. If we view life as a journey and a road we travel, then we can use traveling as a great learning tool.

Being so, so is then not the place we want to be. Because so, so is not good and not bad, it represented stagnation, staying in the comfort-zone, no personal growth, not open for new things. If we are viewed as "bad", and we become aware of that, we have a choice to become better. Being "bad" encourage us to grow, get out of the comfort-zone, smell the roses, courage to move through a difficult time.

At some point in time we will experience all the categories, which is a great thing because now we have an idea where to strive for. If we take traveling as a metaphor for life, then here are a couple things we can learn from traveling.

  • In travels we get exposed to other cultures, other point of views While exploring other options and point of views. In daily life we encounter people who have all different point of views and opinions, and creating a relationship with them can be challenging. The same is when you travel outside of our country, nothing is the same and we need to maneuver through the changes..

  • Often we marvel at the beauty of a country we visit. Something what maybe seem ordinary for one person, can be extraordinary for another. When we truly look around us, the house, the garden, the sky we discover that beauty is all around us. It doesn't matter where you are.

  • When we open our minds, and pay attention what is happening around us we will find opportunities to learn everywhere we go, even if it is just to the groceries store.

View life as a constant adventure, you never will be bored again. Go out and explore the world close to you and you will find that the things you thought are ordinary are actually extraordinary. Ask your self everyday: What was extraordinary today?
