Sorry, I'm busy!!

"Men have it so easy they just have to go to work, and the rest falls on the women. The housework, looking after the children and having a job" said Vera. " Oh stop complaining, you women are always on our cases; we don't contribute to the workload, but if we do something it is never good enough, and you have to correct what we did" Liam replied.

In the last thirty years life expectations have changed, from dividing house chores, career prospects, and raising the children. Nothing is a clears man or women's job anymore and we find it nothing but normal that we multitask all the time. Time is money and there is so much to do, also we want to be seen as successful professionals who have all the ducks in a row; failing is not an option.

Words as success and professional or phrases as "how something should look like" are use so carelessly, but we never stop to really explore what they mean for ourselves; we just assume that we know what they mean without knowing what these words mean for us personally and how they apply to our daily life. When you ask people what is success or professional, you will get different perspectives. The perspectives we have come from:

  • The family culture: What we learn in the first fourteen years of our life at our home base.

  • The society culture: What we see and experience with the people and places around us, (place and country we life in)

  • The world culture: The world is at our fingertips through TV and internet, we get informed what is happening in the rest of our world.

  • The media culture: Through media we get informed, but we need to understand that information is given from their perspective, and it is money driven.

We as people want to do the best we can to be perfect, but again how does that look like? With being perfect on our mind we feel that we have to accomplish all our tasks in a short time, and that means multitasking. Mean while keeping the composure of being the perfect husband/wife, parent, friend, lover and employee, AND then we're surprised that we are exhausted and not productive at all. Doing two things at the same time cost more energy than doing one thing. Are women better at multitasking then men? Maybe, but then; it is all in the perspective.

Question: What is your definition of success?
